《今日のFUP：277》机上の空論
「彼の主張は単なる机上の空論にすぎない」─ His argument is nothing but empty theory.
empty theoryが「机上の空論」に当たる表現。philosophize「思索する」を使って、His point is nothing but idle philosophizing.とも言えます。次の言い回しも一緒に覚えておきましょう。This empty speculation is a waste of time.「このような空理空論は時間の無駄だ」。
（例）「この件について何時間議論しても何にもならない」─ We could argue this for hours and it won't accomplish a thing.
前回の復習
「忙しいのはお互い様だ」─ Everybody’s busy. / You’re not the only one who’s busy.
「誰もが（お互い様）」─ everybody
「お互い様だよね（みんな一緒）」─ I guess we're all in the same boat.
「困っている時はお互い様だろ。何があったか言ってみろよ」─ Friends help each other out. Tell me what’s wrong.
Extra Bit：「どっちもどっちだな（お互い様）」─ You’re both right, and you’re both wrong.
