◎shouldn't have+過去分詞で「~すべきでなかった」の意味。(例)I shouldn't have taken that last piece of cake.「あの最後のケーキ一切れを食べるんじゃなかった」。
(32) Fill me in on the meeting yesterday.
→昨日の会議について詳しく教えて。
◎fill ~ in on ... 「~に ... を詳しく教える」。(例)Fill me in on your plan.「あなたのプランを詳しく教えて」。
(33) The meeting was so boring that it put me to sleep.
→会議があまりにも退屈だから寝ちゃったよ。
◎put a person to sleep「(人を)寝かせる」。so ~ that ... の使い方にも注目。(例)Her bag was so stuffed that it was about to burst.「彼女のバッグは荷物がぎゅうぎゅうに詰まっていて、今にもはちきれそうだった」。
(34) I had to struggle to fight off sleep during the meeting.
→会議中、睡魔と戦わなくてはならなかった。
◎struggle to fight off sleepの文字通りの意味は「眠気を撃退しようともがく」。
(35) Yawning is catching.
→あくびって伝染する。
◎動名詞Yawning「あくびすること」を主語にしています。この場合のcatchingは「伝染性の」という意味の形容詞。Yawns are contagious.とも言えます。
(36) You kept yawning during the meeting.
→会議の間、ずっとあくびをしてたわね。
◎keep yawning「あくびをし続ける」。(例)I can't stop my hiccups.「しゃっくりが止まらない」。

→問題は彼が我々のオファーを受けるかどうかだよ。
◎The question is whether ~「~かどうかが問題だ」。(例)The question is whether she can get the job done (or not).「問題は彼女がその仕事ができるかどうかだ」。

◎spareの代わりにloseも使えます。(例)We don't have a minute to spare. Hurry!「無駄にする時間はないんだから。急いで!」。

→コーヒーを飲み過ぎたわ。
◎「コーヒーの飲み過ぎ」はbe coffeed outで表現できます。I'm all coffeed out.とallをつけて言う場合もあります。(例)I'm sushied out.「お寿司を食べ過ぎた」。
(43) I have to work all night tonight.
→今夜は徹夜だな。
◎「徹夜する」をwork all night「一晩中働く」で表現。(例)I can't afford to pull another all-nighter.「また徹夜なんて無理だよ」。
(44) I feel dazed from lack of sleep.
→寝不足で頭がボーッとする。
◎feel dazed「ボーッとする、ぼんやりする」。from lack of sleep「寝不足で」と一緒にfrom lack of exercise「運動不足で」も覚えておきましょう。
(45) How can you survive on so little sleep?
→ほとんど寝ないでどうやってやっていけるんだ?
◎survive「乗り切る、耐える」。前置詞onが使われている点に注意。
(46) The flu kept me in bed last week.
→先週、インフルエンザで寝込んでた。
◎flu (influenza)「インフルエンザ」。「寝込んでた」をkeep ~ in bedで表現。(例)The flu is going around.「インフルエンザが流行ってる」。
(47) Would it be OK to leave early today?
→今日、早退してもいいでしょうか?
◎Would it be OK to ~?「~してもいいでしょうか?」。(22)参照。「早退する」はleave earlyと言います。
(48) I've lost track of what day it is.
→曜日の感覚がなくなっちゃった。
◎lose track of ~「~を忘れる」。(例)It's easy to lose track of time when you're on the Internet.「インターネットをやってると時間を忘れる」。
(49) You'd better sleep on it.
→一晩寝て考えたほうがいいよ。
◎「~を一晩寝て考える」を英語ではsleep on ~と言います。
(50) Let's do some brainstorming.
→ブレインストーミングしましょう。
◎do some ~ingで「(ちょっと)~する」の意味。(例)Let's do some jogging.「(ちょっと)ジョギングしましょう」。
(51) I thought you'd stopped smoking.
→禁煙してたんじゃないの。
◎you'dはyou hadの短縮形。「禁煙する」はstop smoking、「節煙する」はcut down on one's smokingと言います。
(52) The thought never crossed my mind.
→そのことは思ってもみなかった。
◎主語The thought「その考え」の後にcross one's mind「心に浮かぶ」を使っている点が英語らしいですね。
(53) Now I know what you mean.
→ああそういうことなんですね。
◎know what you meanは「あなたの言っていることがわかる」の意味。(例)I can't figure out what he means.「彼の言ってることが私にはわからない」。
(54) Are you listening to me?
→私の話を聞いてるの?
◎耳を傾けて聞く場合は、hearではなくlistenを使います。(例)Everybody, listen up!「皆、よく聞いて!」。
(55) Go ahead. I'm all ears.
→どうぞ。ちゃんと聞いてるから。
◎go aheadの意味は「前に進む」ですが、「さあどうぞ」と言う時にも使います。be all ears「熱心に聞く、ちゃんと聞く」。
(56) We should market these products overseas.
→この商品を海外で売り出すべきです。
◎この場合のmarketは動詞で「(商品を)市場に出す」の意味。
(57) Let's step back and look at the big picture.
→一歩下がって、全体像を見てみよう。
◎「全体像を見る」はlook at the big pictureと言います。bigの代わりにwholeも使えます。
(58) You can't see the forest for the tree.
→木を見て森を見ず。
◎You can't see the trees for the forest.と言えば「森を見て木を見ず」の意味。

→ストレス解消にジョギングをしてみたらどう?
◎「ストレス解消に」をto relieve stressで表現。(例)I do some jogging on the weekends to let off steam.「ストレス解消のために、週末にジョギングをしている」。

◎「~はどうだった?」はHow did ~ go?で表現します。(例)How did the job interview go?「就職の面接はどうだった?」。
