《今日のFUP：1137》 一件落着 ─ いっけんらくちゃく
「いつまでトラブルが続くのだろうか。そろそろ一件落着といきたいね」 ─ I wonder how long this trouble is going to continue. I think it’s about time to close this case.
continue「続く」。it’s about time to ～「そろそろ～する時だ」の後にclose this case「この件を終わりにする」を続けて、「そろそろ一件落着」を表現しています。名詞形closure「終結」を使って、I wish we could find closure any time now.「そろそろ一件落着させたいのだが」と言ってもいいでしょう。
（例）「未解決の問題は今日すべて決着を見たようですね」─ It looks like we’ve resolved all the outstanding issues today.
・resolve「解決する」、outstanding「未解決の、未処理の」。
前回の復習
「最初に彼女に会った時、何て言ったと思う。開口一番、お腹ぺこぺこ」─ Guess what he said when we first met. The first thing she said was “I’m starving.”
「～は何なのか当てて (推測して) みて」─ Guess what ～
「彼女が最初に言ったことは～ (開口一番～と言った)」─ The first thing she said was ～
「彼女の口から最初に出てきたこと」─ The first thing out of her mouth
「腹ぺこである」─ starve
「(質問されて) あまり考えずに適当に答えちゃった」─ I just said the first thing that came to mind.
Extra Bit：「先ずは、格好から入らないとね」─ The first thing to do is just get a nice outfit for it.
