Point 621：ポイント別徹底トレーニング《There’s ～で言い換える》
ある日の朝、あるオフィスで。電話が鳴り・・・“A call just came in for you on line 1, Mr. Sato.”「一番にお電話が入ってます、佐藤さん」。少しして、“Mr. Ito. There’s a call for you on line 2.”今度は伊藤さんへ電話。気付かれましたか？そうです！英文が言い換えられているのです。
前置きが少し長くなりました。There’s ～は思っている以上によく使われる表現なのです。別の例を見てみましょう。
That’s a piece of cake.
そんなのちょろいよ。
⇨ There’s nothing to it.
a piece of cakeは「簡単にできること」という意味ですから、That’s very easy.とも言えます。ここではThere’s nothing to ～「～はお茶の子さいさい（超簡単）」を使っています。
Passing isn’t allowed here.
ここは追い越し禁止。
⇨ There’s no passing here.
You can’t pass here.と言う代わりにThere’s no ～ing「～することはできない」で言い換えている点に注目！

6. My desk is piled high with papers.
机の上に書類が山積みになっている。
⇨ There’s a ( m ) of papers on my desk.
7. Living alone sure isn’t easy.
一人暮らしは何かと大変。
⇨ There's ( n ) easy about living alone.
8. Please enter with your shoes on.
靴を履いたままで上がって下さい。
⇨ There’s no ( n ) to take your shoes off.
