take the slightest event and blow it all out of proportion「ほんの小さな出来事を取り上げ、大げさに言って広める」で「針小棒大」を表現。make a mountain out of a molehill「小さなことを大きく騒ぎ立てる (蟻塚から山を作る)」を使って、Showbiz tabloids like to make a mountain out of a molehill.とも言えます。showbiz tabloid「芸能界ゴシップ記事を載せるタブロイド紙」。
(例)「彼はいつも大げさに言う。本気にしないほうがいい」─ He always exaggerates. You’d better not take him seriously.
・exaggerate「大げさに言う、誇張する」、seriously「真剣に」。
