《今日のFUP：1054》 岡目八目 ─ おかめはちもく
「岡目八目。このプロジェクトに関わっていないから、どこに問題点があるかわかる」 ─ Sometimes you can see best from a distance. I’m not involved in this project, so I can tell where its problems lie.
see best from a distance「少し離れると一番よく見える」を使って「岡目八目」を表現しています。People watching the game see more than the players do.「試合を見ている人は選手よりもよく見える」と言ってもいいですね。be involved in ～「～に関わる」、lie「(問題点などが) ある」。
(例)「君は関わっているから、物事を客観的に見られないんだ」─ Your involvement means you can’t look at things objectively.
・involvement「関わり、関与」、objectively「客観的に」。
前回の復習
「彼女の話を聞いた時、私は半信半疑だった」─ When I heard her story, half of me wanted to believe it, and half of me thought it was untrue. / When I heard her story, I wasn’t all that convinced.
「半分の自分」─ half of me
「信じる」─ believe
「真実ではない」─ untrue
「完全に信じた、納得した訳ではない (半信半疑)」─ be not all that convinced
「本当にこの薬で毛が生えてくるのかと父は半信半疑だった」─ My father is half in doubt that this medicine can really make hair grow back again.
Extra Bit：「彼以外には誰にも言わなかったが、彼がそれを信じたかどうかははっきりしない」─ I didn't tell anybody but him, and it's hard to say whether he believes it.
