穴埋め英作文1・2・3（作文178回）　ブラインド・自分に正直・このワインは～

水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート（穴埋め問題）に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。

【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

1. How do these blinds (　　　)?
→このブラインドはどうやって上げ下げするの？

→にやにやするのはやめろよ。

→彼女は無い物ねだりばかりしている。

1.「上げ下げ」をwork「動く、機能する」で表現。（例）Here's how it works.「このような仕組みになっています」。
2. wipe off「消し去る」。grin「にやにや笑うこと（名詞）」。（例）Wipe that sneer off your face.「あざ笑うのはよせよ」。
3. ask for the impossibleが「無い物ねだりをする」に当たる言い回し。She always demands the impossible.とも言えます。

aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

4. a. It's important to be honest with yourself.

→自分に正直に生きようよ。

5. a. This interview isn't going to require such fluent English.

→今回の面接では、そんなに高いレベルの英語力は求められてない。

日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。最初の文字が与えられています。

→このワインは甘くて飲みやすいけど、気をつけないと飲みすぎるよ。アルコール度数はビールの倍だから。

【解答】drinkable, watch, twice, much

【解説】
drinkable「美味しく飲める」。watch it「注意する」で「気をつける」の意味に。twice as much as ～で「～の倍」を表現。（例）He eats more than twice as much as other people.「彼は人の倍は食べる」。英文全体を次のように言い換えてもいいでしょう。This wine is sweet and drinkable, but it has about twice the alcohol that beer has, so you have to be careful not to drink too much.
