◇みんなでたくさん入った箱を一つ買えばいいのよ◇
次の文を英訳すると？

1. バレンタインデーのチョコどうしようか。
2. うちの部署は男の人が8人いるんだよね。
3. それぞれが一人ずつに渡すのはやめようよ。
4. みんなでたくさん入った箱を一つ買えばいいのよ。
5. それを部長に渡せばいいんだから。

【Step 1】
日本語の意味に合わせて英訳してみましょう。

1. What should we do about Valentine's Day chocolate?
2. In our section there are eight men.
3. Maybe we shouldn't give chocolate to each one.
4. We should all buy one box with many chocolates inside.
5. It's better to give chocolate for everyone to the section manager.

【解説】
1. What ～ do aboutを使うのも一つの方法ですが、Howとhandleを組み合わせることで「どう対処すべきか」と悩んでいる気持ちがうまく表せます。routineは「慣例」という意味。
2.「いる」はThere are ～の他にWe've gotを使っても表現できます。to buy forは、後ろからeight menを説明しているのですが、buyとforの間にchocolatesを補って考えると、流れがわかりやすくなるでしょう。
3. There's no need to ～で「～する必要はない」の意味。次に、shop separatelyを続けて、「別々に買うことはないでしょう」と言っているのです。また、「それぞれ」を each of us、「一人ずつ」をall eightで表現して います。
4. この場合のchip inは「（みんなでお金を）出し合う」の意味。つまり、chip in on a larger boxで「お金を出し合ってもっと大きな箱（チョコレートがたくさん入っている）を買う」と言っていることになります。go in (together) on ～を使ってもいいでしょう。
5. couldで「～も考えられるわよね」というニュアンスを出しています。もう一点、自動詞doの使い方に注目。That'll do.で「それで十分よ（間に合うわよ）」と言っているのです。また、It will do just fine if we give it to the section manager and let everybody share.のように言い換えられます。
