音読しましょう。

◇地震があったらしいと伝える◇
I heard a small earthquake shook Tokyo last night.
Could you feel it?
It was so small that you probably wouldn't have.

【和訳】
昨夜、東京で小さな地震があったらしい。

とても小さかったから、多分気づかなかったんだろうね

【解説】
shook「揺らした」を使わずに、I heard there was a small earthquake in Tokyo last night.のようにも言えます。feel「感じる、気づく」、so small that ～「とても小さかったので～」。you probably wouldn't haveの後にはfelt itが略されています。

《例文》
1. I hear that old store is finally closing down.
→あの老舗が店じまいするんだって。
2. She shook her head and walked away without saying a word.
→彼女は首を振り、一言も言わずに立ち去った。
3. We'll get the contract this time. I can feel it.
→今回はなんとか契約が取れそうだよ。
4. My feet get so cold in the winter that I can't sleep well.
→冬は足が冷えてよく眠れない。
5. I wouldn't have been surprised to see either side win.
→どちらが勝ってもおかしくない試合だった。

【音読アドバイス】
《ポイント：母音[u]》 book, good, look, should
(1) しっかりとした口調で話し始め、shookの[u]は少し唇を丸めるように発音。
(2) Could you feel it?は「クジュフィーリッ」のような感じでいいでしょう。
(3) It was, that you, haveは軽く弱く。so small, probably wouldn'tを強調します。
