英文法の急所（文法78回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、英語らしい表現を身につける(11)です（日本語と語順が逆になる英語表現）1.～4.のモノローグを赤字に注意して読んでください。
1. I love old black-and-white movies.
They take me back to the old days.
I can imagine what life was like back then.
古い白黒の映画が好きなんだ。
昔に戻れるからね。
その当時の生活がどうだったか想像できるから。
2. The car looks OK from the outside.
But look under the fender.
There are rust spots here and there.
その車、外見はいいんだけど。
でも、フェンダーの下を見てごらん。
あちこちに錆びてる所があるから。
3. You have to confess and apologize.
You can't put it off forever.
People will find out sooner or later.
正直に言って、謝るのね。
いつまでも先延ばしにはできない。
遅かれ早かれ、ばれるんだから。
4. I had coffee with friends last night.
We went to a café and had a nice chat.
We talked for hours about this and that.

【解説】
1. ハイフンをつけてblack-and-whitで「白黒の」という意味の形容詞になります。blackが先に来ている点に注意。take ～ back to ...「～を…に連れ戻す」。
2. 「あちこち」を英語ではhere and thereと言います。
3. sooner or laterが「遅かれ早かれ」に当たる言い回し。soonerが先に来ます。confess「（罪などを）認める、告白する」、apologize「謝罪する」、put ～ off「～を延期する」。
4.「あれこれ」を英語ではthisを先にしてthis and thatと言います。have a nice chat「楽しくおしゃべりする」、for hours「何時間も」。
