音読しましょう。

◇パスタのゆで方を説明する◇
Boil the water first.
Then put the pasta in the pot.
Not the other way around.

【和訳】
まず、お湯を沸かして。
それからパスタを鍋の中に入れる。
逆じゃないよ。



【解説】
boil「沸かす、沸騰させる」。put ～ in ...「...に～を入れる」。the other way aroundは「逆に」の意味。Not the other way around.でDon't put the pasta in the pot before you boil the water.と言っています。

《例文》
1. Somebody boiled this spaghetti too long.
→このスパゲティーゆで過ぎだよ。
2. Let's take your temperature first.
→まず熱を計ってみましょう。
3. Why don't you put yourself in his shoes?
→彼の立場で考えてみたらどうだい？
4. I'd prefer to have it the other way around.
→逆ならいいのに。
5. Those two are such opposites.
→あの二人は正反対だよな。

【音読アドバイス】
《ポイント：母音 [ɑ]》dollar - hot - pocket - stop
(1) ゆっくりと丁寧に指示を出します。theは軽く、waterの[ɑ]は口を大きく開くようにして発音。
(2) Then / put the pasta / in the pot.のように/印のところで軽くポーズを置きます。potの[ɑ]に注意。
(3) Notを強め、the other ～は注意するようにゆっくりと言いましょう。
