ステップアップ英作文で英語に磨きをかけましょう。

次の文を英訳すると？
1. ファクスの調子が悪くってね。
2. うまく送れないんだ。
3. 寿命かもしれないな。
4. そろそろ買い換え時かな。

【Step 1】
日本語の意味に合わせて英訳してみましょう。

2. 主語をIではなくIt (The fax machine) にしています。この場合のwon'tは「どうしても～しない」の意味。動詞はsendの代わりにtransmitを使っています。properly「適切に」。
3.「寿命かもしれない」をI guessとbe on its last legs「死にかかっている」を組み合わせて表現。ここではThis old machine could probably go at any minute.と言ってもいいでしょう。goはbreak down 「壊れる」の意味になります。
4. Could this be a sign that ～「これって～の前兆かな」で「そろそろ」のニュアンスをを出しています。replace「取り替える」。この後にwith a new oneを付け足してもいいでしょう。簡単に、I wonder if I should replace it.とも言えます。
