英文法の急所（文法64回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、よくある間違い (1)です（余分な前置詞をつけてしまう動詞）。1.～4.のモノローグを前置詞（赤字）に注意して読んでください。
1. I have some ideas on how to boost sales.
I'd like to discuss them with you.
Could we meet for lunch next week?
売り上げ増加の方法について考えがあるんだ。
君と話したいんだけど。
来週、ランチの時に会えないかな？
2. I think Susan and Joe were talking about me.
I heard them laughing and whispering.
But they stopped talking when I entered the room.
スーザンとジョーは僕のことを話してたと思う。
彼らが笑ってひそひそ話しているのが聞こえたけど。
僕が部屋に入ったら、話すのをやめたから。
3. My aunt Jessica never married.
Several men asked for her to marry them.
But she said she enjoyed the freedom of living alone.
ジェシカ叔母さんは一度も結婚しなかったの。
何人かの男性が結婚してほしいと言ったんだけど。
叔母さんは一人で暮らすのが自由でいいって言ったのよ。
4. This hike is going faster than I thought.
We've only been walking for 30 minutes.
But we've already reached the edge of the river.
思ったより歩くのが速いよね。
まだ30分しか歩いてないけど。
もう川縁に着いたからね。
▽解説・練習
【解説】
1. talk aboutの連想から、*discuss aboutと言ってしまいがちです。discussは他動詞（直接目的語を取る）ですからaboutは不要です。
2.「部屋に入る」はgoを使えば、go into the roomと前置詞intoが必要になります。enterの場合はenter the roomです。
3.「～と結婚する」はmarry一語で表現します。withやtoをつけないようにしましょう。
4.「～に着く、到着する」ですぐに思いつくのはarrive at ～でしょうか。reachの場合、atは必要ありません。

→長男が高校に入ったばかりなんです。
6. We're still ( ) your proposal.
→君の提案をまだ検討中なんだ。

5. 「高校に入学する」はenter high schoolと言います。
6. considerの使い方にも注意が必要です。think about ～の連想から*consider about ～と言ってしまいがちです。
7.「町に着く」はreach the town / arrive at the town / get to the townと言います。
8. talkを使った場合は、We have nothing further to talk about.とaboutが必要になります。繰り返しになりますが、discussにaboutは不要。
