ロールプレイしましょう。

◇明日、雨降るかな◇
A: I wonder if it's going to rain tomorrow.
B: The weather report says it won't.
A: But look at those clouds. It sure looks like rain.
B: Well, the newspaper says it won't.

【和訳】
A: 明日、雨降るかな。
B: 天気予報では降らないって。
A: でも、あの雲を見てよ。間違いなく降りそうだよ。
B: でもね、新聞には降らないって書いてある。

【解説】
I wonder if ～「～かな」。The weather report says ～「天気予報では～だと言っている」の意味。sureは強調するための副詞です。look like ～「～のようだ」。The newspaper saysのsayは「～だと書いてある」。

《例文》
1. Feel that shaking? I wonder if that was an earthquake.
→揺れた？地震かな。
2. Appearance says a lot about a person.
→外見で人のことがよくわかる。
3. I sure did learn a lot working with him.
→彼と一緒に仕事をして本当に多くのことを学んだ。
4. It looks like the flight is running late.
→飛行機が遅れているらしい。
5. The road sign says you can't park here.
→道路標識にここは駐車禁止と書いてある。

【音読アドバイス】
A: wonder, going, rainにストレスを置き、tomorrowでゆっくりとイントネーションを下げます。
B: weatherの[ð]に注意。saysは「セズ」、won'tは「ウォウンt（tは最後に母音をつけないという意味）」です。
A: But look atは「バルカッt」という感じで。cloudsを特に強調。looks likeの[l]とrainの[r]の発音をしっかりと。
B: Wellの後少し間を置き、newspapersとwon'tを強調します。won'tは「ウォウンt」です！
