今回取り上げるのは動詞explainの使い方。「状況を（君に）説明させてくれ」。これを英語で言うと……。

では、giveのように目的語を入れ替えたらどうでしょう（例：I'll give you a call first thing in the morning.「明日の朝一番にお電話します」）。

実は、上のような言い方はしません。explainには二重目的語を取る用法はないのです。念のためいくつか例文を挙げておきます。
1. I explained my plan to the client.
私のプランをクライアントに説明した。
（*I explained the client my plan.とは言いません。以下同様。）
2. Would you explain that part to me again?
その部分をもう一度説明していただけますか？
3. We have to explain everything to them.
彼らにすべてを説明しなくてはなりません。
4. If you explain the fact to him accurately, he'll understand.
事実をきちんと説明すれば、彼だってわかってくれるよ。
では、目的語が長くなった場合はどうでしょうか。5.と6.を英訳してください。
