hardとhardlyは共に副詞ですが、lyがあるなしで、まるで意味が違ってしまいます。わかっているとは思いますが、念のため、両者を混同しないように次の例文を参考にして意味の違い確認しておきましょう。
まずはhardから。
1. I want you to try as hard as you can.
君にはできるだけ頑張ってほしい。
2. Try not to work the newcomers so hard.
新人をしごくのもほどほどにしろよ。
3. My heart was pounding so hard I got lightheaded.
胸がどきどきして、めまいがした。
次はhardlyです。
4. I hardly feel like I ate at all.
まるで食べた気がしない。
5. He was so sleepy that he could hardly keep his eyes open.
彼は眠くて眠くて、ほとんど目を開けていられなかった。
6. I sprained my ankle and could hardly walk.
足首を捻挫して、ほとんど歩けなかった。
7. It was so foggy that I could hardly see across the street.
霧が濃くて、通りの向こう側がほとんど見えなかった。
