「彼は清廉潔白な人権派弁護士として知られていた。どうして人から金を騙し取るようになってしまったのか？」─ He was known as a human rights attorney who was straight as an arrow. What made him change into a swindler?

be known as ～「～として知られている」、human rights attorney / lawyer「人権問題専門の弁護士」。be straight as an arrow「(矢のように) 真っ直ぐな、実直な (人)」で「清廉潔白」を表現しています。swindler「人からお金を騙し取る人（詐欺師）」。
（例）「清廉潔白で知られている彼が、その老人から大金を騙し取るわけがない」─ With his reputation for integrity, I don’t think he'd ever swindle a lot of money out of the old man.
　・reputation「評判」、integrity「高潔、誠実」。
