《今日のFUP：1208》 内憂外患 ─ ないゆうがいかん
「我が国は内憂外患の状況にあるが、国を挙げて乗り切らなくてはならない」─ Our country is beset with problems both internal and external, but we have to overcome them as a nation.
be beset with problems「さまざまな問題に悩まされている」。この後にboth internal and external「内外共に」を付け足して、「内憂外患の状況にある」を表現しています。both at home and abroad「国内外で」も使えます。overcome ～ as a nation「国家として～を乗り越える」。
（例）「うちの息子は内弁慶ですから」─ Our son is a mouse abroad and a lion at home.
・「内と外」を使った面白い言い回し。ネズミとライオンの対比に注目。
前回の復習
「今回は負けてしまったのは残念だが、彼らは今、捲土重来を期して猛練習に励んでいる」─ Too bad they lost this time, but now they’re in intensive training, trying that much harder to win.
「～は残念である」─ (It’s) Too bad (that) ～
「猛練習 (集中訓練) 中」─ be in intensive training
「勝つために、以前にもまして頑張っている (捲土重来を期して → 一度負けたが、勢いを盛り返し、反撃に転じる)」─ trying that much harder to win
「今日は負けたけど、次の試合でリベンジするぞ」─ We lost today. But we’ll get back at them in the next game.
Extra Bit：「やり返してやる。あいつら後悔するぞ」─ It's payback time. Now they'll be sorry.
