早速ですが、英文和訳にトライ！（Point 172参照）
Water polo is the kind of sport where there’s a huge difference between watching and playing.
和訳をチェック！「水球は□□と◇◇のでは大違いのスポーツです」。当たり前と言えば、当たり前ですが、性格分析に登場したthe kind of ～は人以外にも使えます。ちなみに、□□には「見る」、◇◇には「やる」が入ります。
もう一度、和訳にトライ！
This is the kind of prayer you only say when you’re desperate.
prayerは「祈り」、desperateは「絶望的な」。これでピンと来ましたか？「苦しい時の□□み」です。もうおわかりですね。「神頼み」です。
the kind ofとthingの組み合わせは会話で重宝する言い回しです。具体例を挙げておきましょう。
Is this the kind of thing I should tell her about?
これって彼女に伝えるべき？
