《今日のFUP：1039》 千変万化 ─ せんぺんばんか
「ここ数日、天気が千変万化している」 ─ The weather has been changing drastically for the past few days.
change drastically「目まぐるしく (劇的に) 変わる」で「千変万化」を表現。Weを主語にして、We’ve had all kinds of weather over the past few days.とも言えます。all kinds of ～「あらゆる種類の～」。まさに、「千変万化」ですね。
(例)「彼は言うことがころころ変わる (千変万化する)」─ He’ll say one thing one minute, and another thing the next (minute).
・oneとanother、nextの使い方に注目。最後のminuteは省略可。
前回の復習
「彼らはチャンスの到来を虎視眈々と待ち構えていた」─ They were biding their time, like a tiger, waiting for a chance to pounce. / They were lying in wait for just the right chance.
「虎のように (虎視眈々)」─ like a lion
「チャンスを待つ」─ bide one’s time
「飛びかかる」─ pounce
「待ち伏せする」─ lie in wait
「この機会を逃したら、きっと後悔する」─ I’m sure you’ll be sorry if you miss this chance.
Extra Bit：「もう一度だけチャンスをもらえませんか？」─ Couldn’t you give me just one more chance?
