《今日のFUP：1028》 弱肉強食 ─ じゃくにくきょうしょく
「規則や規制がなければ、弱肉強食の世界になってしまう」 ─ Without rules and regulations, all we’d have would be the law of the jungle.
Without ～「～がなければ」はIf it weren’t for ～と言い換えられます (仮定法過去)。regulation「規制、統制」。 we’dはwe wouldの短縮形。ここではthe law of the jungle「ジャングルの掟」で「弱肉強食」を表現しています。
(例) 「この業界は弱肉強食だ」─ This business goes by the law of the jungle.
・go by ～「～に従う」。
前回の復習
「夫の趣味は花鳥風月の写真撮影です」─ My husband’s hobby is taking photos of beautiful landscapes in natural settings.
「～の写真を撮る」─ take a photo of ～
「美しい自然の風景 (花鳥風月)」─ beautiful landscapes in natural settings / the beauties of nature
「花鳥風月を描くこと」─ painting beautiful landscapes in natural settings
「美しい風景画 (花鳥風月) を見ていると心がなごむ」─ Looking at paintings of beautiful landscapes puts me at ease.
