《今日のFUP：1021》 起承転結 ─ きしょうてんけつ
「この４コマ漫画は起承転結がはっきりしていない」 ─ This four-frame comic strip has no clear organization or development.
four-frame comic strip「４コマ漫画」。「起承転結」を英語にすると次のようになります。introduction「導入」- development「進展」- turn「変化」- conclusion「結論」。ここではno clear organization or development「全体の構成、あるいは、(話の) 展開がはっきりしていない」で「起承転結がはっきりしていない」を表現しています。
(例)「それ冗談のつもり？落ちはどこにあるの？面白くも何とないよ」─ You call that a joke? Where’s the punch line? There’s nothing funny about it at all.
・punch line「(冗談や話などの) 落ち」。
前回の復習
「まさに適材適所。彼女は事務職より接客業の方が向いている」─ She’s definitely the right person for the job. She’s more cut out for customer service than office work.
「～にまさにぴったりの人物 (適材適所)」─ be definitely the right person for ～
「BよりAの方が向いている」─ be more cut out for A than (for) B / be better suited for A than (for) B
「接客業」─ customer service
「事務仕事」─ office work
「彼は営業には向いてないと思う」─ I don’t think he’s sales material.
Extra Bit：「私には何が向いていると思いますか？」─ What (kind of job) do you think I’m cut out to do?
