「面目ない。こんなことでどじを踏むなんて」─ I’m so ashamed. Why did I have to lay an egg like this?
ここではlay an egg「大失敗する」で「どじを踏む」を表現。make a mess of ～「～を台無しにする」を使って、I made a mess of it this time. I’m really ashamed.とも言えます。
（例）「誰にでも失敗はある」─ Everybody blows it once in a while.
前回の復習
「浴衣は夏しか着る機会がない」─ The only occasion I have to wear a yukata is in the summer. / The summer is the only time I have occasion to wear a yukata.
「唯一の機会」─ the only occasion
「～する機会がある」─ have occasion to ～
「機会があったら今度電話して」─ Call me the next time you get the chance.
Extra Bit：「このような仕事の面接の機会がもらえるなんてめったにないことだ」─ Getting a job interview like this is a rare opportunity.
