「彼って運転すると人が変わるよね」─ He becomes another person behind the wheel.
behind the wheelで「運転して」という意味になります。When he's behind the wheel, his personality changes.とも言えます。ちなみに、「車のハンドル」はsteering wheelと言います。少し長くなりますが、behind the wheelを使った例文を一つ。When you see that sticker on a car, it means there's a senior driver behind the wheel.「車にあのステッカーがついているのが見えたら、それは高齢者が運転しているということです」。behindの代わりにatも使えます。What if you cause an accident, falling asleep at the wheel?「居眠り運転で事故を起こしたらどうするの？」。
