水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート（穴埋め問題）に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。

【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

→目は口ほどに物を言う。

→平和は願っているだけでは実現しない。

1. The eyes say more than the mouth.の文字通りの意味は「目は口以上に（ものを）言う」です。One's eyes are often more eloquent than one's mouth.とも言い換えられます。eloquent「雄弁な」。
2. wish ～ into existence「～が存在してほしいと願う」。受け身の文になっている点に注意。（例）Wishing alone is of no use.「願っているだけでは何の役にも立たない」。
3. never too late to ～「～するのに遅過ぎるということはない」。（例）It's too late to worry about it now.「今さら後悔しても遅い」。

aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。最初の文字が与えられています。

→彼は信じられないくらい記憶力がいいんだ。昔あったことを事細かに覚えてるんだから。

【解答】unbelievable, remember, details, happened

【解説】
unbelievable「信じられない」。finestはfine「細かい」の最上級。details「詳細」と組み合わせて「事細かに」を表現しています。happened a long time ago「ずっと前に起きた」。次のようにも言えます。He's got an incredible memory. He can call up minute details about things that happened a long time ago.

→今からではもうキャンセル料を取られてしまう。
Your senior year is too late to start your job search.
→4年生になってから就職活動をするなんて遅すぎるよ。
