穴埋め英作文1・2・3（作文161回）　君らしい・どちらでも・お決まりの～

水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート（穴埋め問題）に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。

【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

1. That's just (　　　) you.
→君らしいね。

2. How (　　　) is your family?
→家族構成は？

3. These boogers in my nose are (　　　) me.
→鼻くそがつまって気持ちが悪い。

1.「～らしい」をjust like ～「まさに～のうよう」で表現しています。（例）Isn't that just like him? 「それっていかにも彼らしいんじゃない？」。
2. How big「どれくらい大きい」とfamilyを組み合わせている点に注目。（例）How many people are there in your family?「何人家族ですか？」。
3. booger「鼻くそ」。「気持ちが悪い」をbother「悩ます、困らせる」で表現。（例）These bangs are bothering me.「前髪がうっとうしい」。

【Part 2】
aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

4. a. Either one is fine.
b. I could go either (　　　).
→どちらでもかまいません。

5. a. I'm a volunteer interpreter.
b. I (　　　) as a volunteer activity.
→ボランティアで通訳をしています。

4. go either wayで「どちらへでも行く」で「どちらでもかまわない」の意味に。（例）The game could have gone either way.「どちらが勝ってもおかしくない試合だった」。
5. この場合のvolunteer「ボランティアの」は形容詞。interpreter「通訳」は名詞、interpret「通訳する」は動詞ですね。（例）Do you think I'll need an interpreter on this business trip?「今回の出張では、通訳が必要になりますか？」。

【解説】
I'm sure you get this question all the time「きっとあなたはいつもこの質問を受ける」で「お決まりの質問」を表現。come to mindは「思い浮かぶ」という意味。次のように言い換えてもいいでしょう。I'm sure people ask you this question all the time, but it's all I can think of right now.

【リピーティング】
英文1～3をリピートしましょう。

1. That's just like you.
2. How big is your family?
3. These boogers in my nose are bothering me.



英文4～5（a, b）をリピートしましょう。

4. a. Either one is fine.
b. I could go either way.

5. a. I'm a volunteer interpreter.

今日のワンポイント

eitherを使った英文をいくつか挙げておきましょう。

Tell me clearly either yes or no.
→「はい」なのか、「いいえ」なのかはっきり言って。
Either way, it's probably nothing serious.
→どちらににしても、多分大したことないよ。
I couldn't live without either one of them.
→どっちもないと生きていけないだろうな。
It's either going extremely well or extremely badly.
→ものすごくうまく行くか、全然だめかのどちらかだろう。
You either grow a beard or you don't. Make up your mind.
→髭を生やすのか、生やさないのか。どっちかにすれば。
