火曜日は「会話（役割練習）」の日。A・Bの2行会話文を使って、会話の自然なリズム・テンポを身につけましょう。会話文1～3と和訳を読み、音声を聞いてから、解説をチェック！
1. A: What did you do over the weekend?
B: Nothing much. I just lolled around the house.
A: 週末は何をしたの？
B: 特に何も。家でゴロゴロしてただけ。
2. A: Do you know where the nearest post office is?
B: I think there's one about a block away from here.
A: 最寄りの郵便局はどこですか？
B: ここから1ブロック行った所にありますよ。
3. A: Have you ever seen this TV show before?
B: No. What are those people doing?
A: 以前にこのテレビ番組を見たことある？
B: ないよ。あの人たちは何をしてるの？
▽解説・練習
【解説】
1. over the weekend「週末にかけて」。nothing muchは「大したことは何も」という意味。loll around the houseが「家でゴロゴロする」に当たる言い回し。lollの代わりにlieも使えます。
《発音アドバイス》
What did you doは［ワッディジュードゥ］という感じで。Nothingの[θ]、lolledの[l]、aroundの[r]を意識しましょう。
2. nearest「最寄りの（一番近い）」。（例）The ambulance rushed him to the nearest hospital.「救急車が彼を一番近い病院に運んだ」。oneはpost officeのことですね。a block away from hereの文字通りの意味は「ここから1ブロック離れた所に」。
《発音アドバイス》
knowとnearest post officeを強調して言います。there's oneの後に少し間を置き、awayで軽くイントネーションを上げ、hereで下げます。
3. Have you ever ～「これまでに～したことはありますか？」。（例）Have you ever been on TV?「（これまでに）テレビに出たことある？」。What are those people doing?はWhat are those people up to?とも言えます。
《発音アドバイス》
seenでイントネーションを軽く上げ、showで下げ、beforeで上げます。No.とthoseの［オゥ］に注意しましょう。
【役割練習】
ロールプレイをしましょう。
◆日本語（カッコ内）のヒントを見て、Aのパートを演じてください。スタート音の後、1～3の音声が連続して流れます。
1. A: What did（週末）
B: Nothing much. I just lolled around the house.
2. A: Do you（郵便局）
B: I think there's one about a block away from here.
