「家に帰る途中で昔の友達にばったり出会ったんだ」─ I bumped into an old friend of mine on the way home.
bump into ～で「～にばったり出会う」という意味。例文をもう一つ。I bumped into her on the street yesterday.「昨日、彼女に道でばったり出会った」。bump intoは「どんとぶつかる」という意味でも使えます。I got a bruise on my leg when I bumped into the table.「テーブルにぶつけて、足にあざができた」。
