水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート（穴埋め問題）に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。
【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。
1. I'm glad to have your ( ).
→あなたに認められて嬉しいです。
2. Yeah, music is ( ) you feel.
→やはり音楽は感じるものだろう。
3. We should enjoy ourselves ( ) drinking.
→お酒は楽しく飲むものです。

1. have one's recognition「～に認めてもらう」。動詞recognize「認める」の名詞形がrecognitionです。It was wonderful for me to get your recognition.でも同じように意味になります。
2.「感じるもの」をsomething (that) you feel「感じる何か」で表現しています。（例）Is there something you wanted to talk about?「何か用事だったの？」。
3. while (we're) drinking「飲みながら」。we'reが省略されています。（例）It's not good for the digestion to eat while lying down.「横になって食べるのは消化によくない」。

aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。
4. a. This dish has a little too much salt.
b. This dish is too ( ).
→この料理は塩味がきつい。
5. a. Let's vote on the issue.
b. Let's ( ) the matter to a vote.
→決を採ることにしましょう。

5. vote「投票する」は名詞としても使えます。put ～ to a vote「～を投票に付す」。（例）OK, let's take a vote, shall we?「では、投票をしましょうか？」。

get ahead in the worldが「出世する」に当たる言い回し。（例）Everyone wants to get ahead in business.「誰もが商売で成功したいと思っている」。without knowing ～「～を知らないと（できないと）」。「お先真っ暗」をfuture「将来」、pretty dark「かなり暗い」を使って表現しています。（例）There's no light at the end of the tunnel.「お先真っ暗」。

while ～ing「～をしながら、～をしている最中に」を使った英文をいくつか挙げておきましょう。

→テレビを見ながら勉強はできないでしょ。

→運動しているときに肩を痛めちゃってさ。
I twisted my ankle while coming down the stairs.
→階段を下りている時に、足首をひねっちゃったんだ。
Have you heard about the woman who was attacked while jogging in that park?
→あそこの公園で女性がジョギング中に襲われたって話を聞いた？
It's really nice once in a while to drink sake while enjoying a landscape blanketed in snow.
→たまには雪見酒もいいもんだ。
