木曜日は「英文法」の日。Practice before theory.「理屈より実践」。さまざな例文を参考にして、使える英文法を身につけましょう。今回は基本動詞Takeを取り上げます。

◆Takeを使いこなす！ (1)◆
日常会話の中でよく用いられる例文を五つ挙げてみます。

【リピーティング】
英文1～5をリピートしましょう。

1. OK, I'll take it.
→じゃあ、それにします（買い物）。
2. Take your time and enjoy yourself.
→ゆっくり楽しんでください。
3. I can't afford to take it easy.
→のんびりする余裕などない。
4. Let's take a break, shall we?
→休憩しようか。
5. It takes a lot of money to get into that club.
→あのクラブに入会するにはお金（大金）がかかる。



▽解説・穴埋め

【解説】
1. 買い物などで「～にします」はtake ～で表現します。（例）I'll take $20 of regular.「レギュラー（ガソリン）を20ドル分お願いします」。
2. take one's timeは「ゆっくりする、時間をかける」という意味。（例）Take your time and relax now during the off season.「オフはゆっくりと休んでね」。
3. take it easy「気楽にやる、のんびりする」。（例）How are you feeling? I hope you're taking it easy.「調子はどう？無理しないでね」。
4.「take a＋名詞」の使い方に注目。（例）Why don't you take a rest?「休憩したら？」、Is anyone taking a bath right now?「今誰かお風呂に入っているの？」。
5. この場合のtakeは「（お金や時間が）かかる、必要とする」という意味。（例）It takes a lot of time and money to establish yourself in society.「社会で確固たる地位を築くには時間とお金が必要だ」。

【穴埋め】
日本語の意味なるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

→それを二つに、これを三つください。

→ゆっくりやって。急がなくていいから。

6. 複数形thoseとtheseを使っている点に注意。（例）Take one of these pills every day.「これを毎日一錠飲んでください」。
7.「急がなくていい」はThere's no rush. / We're not in a hurry.とも言えます。
8. rush「急がせる、急いでさせる」。「ぼちぼち行く」をtake it slowで表現。
9. take a vote「決を採る、多数決で決める」。How about ～ingの使い方にも注目。（例）How about taking a day trip to Kyoto?「日帰りで京都に行かない？」。
10. How long will it take to ～?「～するのにどれくらい（時間）かかりますか？」。（例）How long will it take to go there by subway?「そこまで地下鉄で時間はどれくらいかかりますか？」。

【リピーティング】
英文6～10をリピートしましょう。

7. Take your time. There's no hurry.
8. No sense rushing things. Let's take it slow.

Don't take such a short-term view of things.
→そういう短期的な見方をしちゃだめだよ。

→この魚、解凍するのに１時間くらいかかる。

→ここに着くのにどれくらい時間がかかったの？
