水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート（穴埋め問題）に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。
【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。
1. I'll tell him a thing or ( ).
→彼にちょっと言っておくよ。
２. How much is your monthly ( )?
→君の一ヶ月のお小遣いはいくら？
3. This shirt won't ( ) in the wash.
→このシャツは洗濯しても色があせないよ。

【解説】
1. tell ～ a thing or twoで「～に小言（文句）を言う」という意味。（例） I do know a thing or two about cars.「車のことなら多少は知ってるよ（実は詳しい）」。
2.「小遣い」はallowanceと言います。（例）Here's your weekly allowance.「1週間分のお小遣いよ」。
3.「（色が）あせる、薄くなる」はfadeで表現します。（例）This red shirt has faded since I bought it.「この赤いシャツ、買った時からすると色あせちゃったね」。

aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

【解説】
support「支持する、支援する」。couldは「～かもしれない（可能性がある）」という意味。「～に狙われる」をbecome a target of ～「～の標的になる」で表現。hostile country「敵国」。hostile「敵意のある」の名詞形はhostility「敵意、敵対行為」。Japan could be targeted by hostile countries for its support of the United States.でも同じような意味になります。
