「この話題を持ち出すべきではなかった」─ I shouldn't have brought up this topic.
「（話題や問題などを）持ち出す、取り上げる、指摘する」はbring upで表現します。I don't see any point in bringing it up with him.と言えば、「彼にそれを指摘するのはどうかと思う」の意味に。例文をもう一つ。This is neither the time nor the place to bring up your financial problems.「君の金銭問題を持ち出すなんて、時と場所を考えろよ」。
