木曜日は「英文法」の日。Practice before theory.「理屈より実践」。さまざな例文を参考にして、使える英文法を身につけましょう。今回はWhichです。

◆Whichを使いこなす！(2)◆
日常会話の中でよく用いられる例文をさらに五つ挙げてみます。

【リピーティング】
英文1～5をリピートしましょう。

11. Which do you like better, classical or jazz?
→ジャズとクラシック、どっちが好き？
12. Which one tastes best?
→一番美味しいのはどれ？
13. Which of these colors should I choose?
→ここにある色のどれを選んだらいい？
14. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
→鶏が先か、卵が先か？
15. Have you decided on which car to buy?
→どの車を買うか決めた？



▽解説・穴埋め

【解説】
11. 人の好みを聞く時に使うのが、Which do you like better, A or B?（例）Which do you like better, watercolor or oil paintings?「水彩画と油絵どちらが好きですか？」。
12. taste「味がする」。Which one is the best?とも言えます。
13.「ここにある / そこにある～のうちどれが...？」と聞く場合に、Which of these / those ～?を使います。I don't know which of these colors to choose.この言い回しも覚えておきましょう。
14.「どっちが先か」をWhich came first「どっちが先に来たか」で表現。（例）It's like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg.「れって鶏が先か卵が先かという質問をするようなものだ」。
15. which car to buyはwhich car you should buyの意味。（例）Could you tell me which train to take to Shibuya?「渋谷へ行くにはどの電車に乗ればいいでしょうか？」。

【穴埋め】
日本語の意味なるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

【解説】
16. betterをbestに代えれば、「一番好きなのはどれ？」の意味になります。（例）I like this coffee best.「このコーヒーが一番いいね」。
17. go best with ～「～に一番合う」。（例）This blouse goes best with your skirt.「お客様のスカートにはこのブラウスがぴったりです」。
18. Which of these mangos looks ～のlooksに注意。mangosにつられてlookにしないように。
19. 最後にwithが来ている点に注目。似たような英文を挙げておきましょう。Which shelf should I put these books on?「ここにある本はどこの棚に置けばいいでしょうか？」。
20.「which＋名詞＋to＋動詞」。このパターンはよく使われます。（例）I can't decide which course to apply for.「どのコースに申し込めばいいか決められない」。

英文11～15をリピートしましょう。
