第126回

水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート（穴埋め問題）に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。

【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

→これはプレイしてみる価値がある。

→君のテニスの腕前は？

→チェーンが外れちゃった！

【解説】
1. worth ～ing「～する価値がある」。（例）It's not even worth mentioning, is it?「わざわざ言うほどのことじゃないでしょう」。
2.「（腕前は）どうか」をHowで表現。（例）How are you at improvising?「即興で何かをするのは得意？」。
3. derail「脱線させる」→ get derailed「外れる（脱線する）」。derailは自動詞としても使えます。（例）A commuter train derailed in Tokyo this morning.「今朝、東京で通勤電車が脱線した」。

aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

4. a. Let me borrow that.

→それを貸して！

5 a. Things usually don't go the way you plan.

→物事ってのは思ったように行かないものだ。

5. the way you planは「計画したように」、according to planは「計画通りに」の意味。planの前に冠詞theは不要。（例）The work isn't going according to plan.「計画通りに仕事が進んでいない」。

→その番組は、毎週健康に関する話題を取り上げていて、とても役に立つます。

6. program, features, topics, useful

【解説】
program「番組」の代わりにshowも使えます。feature「取り上げる、特集する」。health-relatedで「健康に関連した」の意味。（例）computer-related work「コンピューター関連の仕事」。topic「話題」、very useful「とても役に立つ」。もう一点。カンマ (,)＋whichの例文を挙げておきます。（例）The inside story of the trade talks, which has long been kept secret, is now coming out.「長い間秘密にされていたその貿易交渉の内幕が、今、暴露される」。

【リピーティング】
英文1～3をリピートしましょう。

1. This one is worth playing.
2. How are you at tennis?

英文4～5（a, b）をリピートしましょう。

4. Let me borrow that.
b. Give me that for a second.

今日のワンポイント

次の例文を見て、according to ～「～にしたがって、～によれば」の使い方を覚えましょう。

You should live according to your own rules.
→自分らしく生きてみろよ。
We did the job according to the directions we received.
→受け取った指示にしたがってその仕事をしたまでです。
You'll have to act according to changing circumstances.
→そのへんは臨機応変に対応してください。
According to what he says, you have to apply in advance.
→彼が言うには、事前に申し込みが必要なんですって。
According to the stars, I am going to have a lucky year this year.
→星占いによると、今年の僕の運勢はいいらしい。
