水曜日は「英作文」の日。日々の生活の中でよく使う言い回しを英語で表現してみましょう。練習は三つのパート(穴埋め問題)に分かれています。それでは始めましょう。
【Part 1】
日本語の意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

→新しく買った靴が合わない。

→このカッターは切れが悪いね。

1. fit「合う、フィットする」。(例)This jacket fits very well.「このジャケット、ぴったりだよ」。
2. dull「(ナイフなどが)切れ味が悪い」。(例)This kitchen cuts well.「この包丁はよく切れる」。
3. dog-paddle「犬かきで泳ぐ」。(例)Can you do the butterfly stroke / do the crawl?「バタフライ/クロールはできる?」、I always swallow water when I do the backstroke.「背泳ぎすると、水飲んじゃうんだ」、How's your breast stroke?「平泳ぎは得意?」。

aとbが同じ意味になるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

5. don't mind talking to you on the phoneの文字通りの意味は「電話で話してもかまわない」。(例)I don't mind leading a quiet, uneventful life.「僕は静かで平凡な人生でかまわない」。

I wonder why (it is that) ~は「~はなぜなのかな」という意味。(例)I wonder why he's so affectionate today. 「彼は今日、なんであんなに愛想がいいんだろう」。souvenir「お土産(前回Part 2参照)」。「海外用の」をfor foreign markets「外国市場向けの」で表現。old-fashioned「昔ながらの」の代わりにold-timeを使えます。themはsouvenirsですね。
