木曜日は「英文法」の日。Practice before theory.「理屈より実践」。さまざな例文を参考にして、使える英文法を身につけましょう。今回はWhereです。

◆Whereを使いこなす！(1)◆
Whereの基本的意味は「どこに、どこで、どこへ」。日常会話の中でよく用いられる例文を挙げてみます。

【リピーティング】
英文1～5をリピートしましょう。

1. Where are we?
→ここはどこだ？
2. Where's the line?
→並んでないじゃない（行列はどこ？）。
3. Where do you want to meet?
→どこで会おうか？
4. Where does he get his motivation?
→彼のやる気はどこから来るんだ？
5. Where are you going?
→どこへ行くの？



▽解説・穴埋め

【解説】
1. Where are / is ～「～はどこですか？」。（例）Where are my glasses?「メガネはどこだっけ？」。
2. Where's the line?はWhere isの短縮形。（例）Where's the punch line?「（話の）おちがないじゃないか」。
3. Where do you want to ～「どこで～したい？」。（例）Where do you want to eat?「どこで食べたい？」。
4. 主語がheなので、Where does he ～とdoesを使います。（例）Where does she keep the wine?「彼女はワインをどこに置いてるんだ？」。
5. 進行形を使ってどこへ行こうとしているのかを聞いています。（例）Where are you going in such a hurry?「そんなに急いでどこへ行くの？」

日本語の意味なるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

6. 出身地はWhere are youの後にfromをつけて聞きます。Where do you come from? / Where is your hometown?とも言います。
7. parking lot「駐車場」。（例）I wonder where the parking lot is.「駐車場はどこかな」。where the parking lot isの語順に要注意。
8. 最後のfromの使い方に注目。（例）Do I know you from somewhere?「どこかでお会いしましたか？」。
9. getの代わりにcome fromを使って次のようにも言えます。Where does his enthusiasm come from?
10. 進行形を使って、今働いている場所を聞いています。（例）I'm working at an affiliate of A Co.「Ａ社の関連会社に勤めています」。

→彼の行動力には本当に感心するね。どこから来るんだろうか？
