ロールプレイしましょう。

◇何があったの？◇
A: Did you get your car fixed after it broke down yesterday?
B: Sort of.
A: What happened?
B: We fixed the engine, but on the way home a tire blew out.

【和訳】
A: 昨日、車が故障して、修理してもらったの？
B: まあね。
A: 何があったの？
B: エンジンは修理したんだけど、家に帰る途中でタイヤがパンクしちゃったんだよ。

【解説】
get ～ fixed「～を修理してもらう」、break down「故障する」。この場合のSort of.は「まあね（修理したと言えばしたんだけど）」という意味を表します。on the way ～「～の途中で」。blow out「パンクする」。「パンク」はflatでも表現できます。（例）I've got a flat in my rear right wheel.「右の後輪がパンクした」。

《例文》
1. I'd rather replace it with a new one than try to get it fixed.
→修理するより買い換えるほうがいいかな。
2. My car broke down in the middle of my commute.
→通勤の途中で車が故障した。
3. I sort of understood it, but I wasn't too sure about it.
→わかったようなわからないような。
4. Don't forget to give me a call on the way home.
→帰る前に必ず電話してね。
5. Do you know how to change a flat?
→パンクしたタイヤの交換の仕方知ってる？

【音読アドバイス】
A: Did youは「ディジュ」、get yourは「ゲッチュア」。car, fixed, broke, downにストレスを置き、yesterdayでイントネーションを上げます。
B: Sort ofは「ソータヴ」という感じで。
A: happenedで下げます。
B: fixed, engineにストレス。butは「バッ」。home「ホーゥm」とtireを特に強調します。
