英文法の急所（文法110回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、苦手な構文を克服する(19)「比較表現の基本用法」です。1.～4.のモノローグを赤字に注意して読んでください。
1. I wish I could buy that computer.
It's faster than the one I have.
But the price tag has too many zeros.
あのコンピューターが買えたらな。
僕の持っているのより速いから。
でも、値札のゼロが多すぎる。
2. You should go to a good public school.
They're more affordable than private schools.
Think about who's paying for it all.
いい公立の学校に行くべきだね。
私立よりお金はかからないし。
誰がそれを全部払うのかを考えて。
3. This fishing lure is better than any other.
I'm not sure why fish like it so much.
Maybe it's this red stripe on the bottom
このルアーはどれよりもいい。

4. You should get these golf clubs.
They're less expensive than mine.

【解説】
1. fastの比較級fasterとthanを組み合わせて「～より速い」を表現。price tag「値札」。
2. affordableのように音節が多い語は語尾に-erではなくmore ～ thanを使って比較を表現します。（例）more comfortable, more interesting, more efficientなど。
3. goodの比較級はbetterですね。better than any otherで「どれよりもいい」、つまり、「一番いい」と言っているのです。不規則な変化をする比較級の例を挙げておきましょう。bad - worse / many - more / little - lessなど。lure「ルアー、疑似餌」、stripe「縞」。
4. less expensive than ～で「～より高くない」（劣等比較）の意味になります。as goodの後にはas mineが略されています。
