英文法の急所（文法106回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、苦手な構文を克服する(15)「間接疑問：注意したいその語順」です。1.～4.のモノローグを赤字に注意して読んでください。
1. Look at that guy by the cigarette machine.
I've seen him here several times.
Don you know who he is?
煙草の自動販売機のそばにいるあの人を見て。
前に何度か見かけたことがあるんだけど。
誰だっけ？
2. I know this is the right station.
But I don't remember which train we should take.
Do you remember which train it is?
この駅でいいのはわかってるんだけど。
どの電車に乗るか覚えてないんだ。
どの電車か覚えてる？
3. Excuse me.
Could you tell me where the pay phone is?
My cellphone battery just died.
すみません。
公衆電話がどこにあるかわかりますか？
携帯電話のバッテリーが切れてしまったものですから。
4. This is an excellent mystery movie.
There are so many twists and turns.
What do you think will happen next?
このミステリーの映画いいよね。

【解説】
1. Do you know ～の後にwhoを使った疑問文。この場合はwho is heではなく、who he isの語順にします。
2. I don't rememberの後に疑問文which train should we takeを続ける場合は、which train we should takeの語順に。Do you rememberの後のwhich train it isも同様。
3. 上の例と同様に、where is the pay phoneをwhere the pay phone isの語順にします。pay phone「公衆電話」、die「（電池などが）切れる、なくなる」。
4. What will happen next?とDo you thinkを組み合わせる場合、Yes / Noで答えられる質問ではないので、Do you think ～ではなく、What do you think will ～の語順にします。twists and turns「（意外な）変化」。

5. where you would be ～の語順になっている点に注意。
6. この場合も、how am I ～ではなくhow I am ～の語順にします。be supposed to ～「～することになっている」、pose「ポーズをとる」。
7. How did you know was he ～ではなく、How did you know he was ～の語順にします。
8. What does the future have in store for me?の疑問文。Whatの後にdo you thinkを入れると、doesを取って、the future has ～にしなくてはいけません。in store「待ち構えて」。

→どっちへ曲がるんだったっけ。
