正解 (A) broke：「冷や汗ものだったよ」─ I broke out in a cold sweat.
break out in a cold sweatが「冷や汗をかく」に当たる言い回しです。break into a cold sweatとも言います。sweat「汗」を使った例文を一つ。You're drenched in sweat. Did you run all the way here?「汗びっしょりだね。ここまでずっと走ってきたのかい？」。sweatは動詞としても使えます。例えば、「じっと立っているだけで、汗が出てくる」は、Even just standing still, I'm sweating.と言います。また、sweatにyを付け足せば形容詞になります。I get sweaty palms when I'm nervous.「緊張すると手の平に汗をかくんだ」。
