英文法の急所（文法100回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、苦手な構文を克服する(9)「文をつなぐwhenとwhereの働き（関係副詞）」です。1.～4.のモノローグを赤字に注意して読んでください。
1. This is my favorite time of year.
It's the season when the leaves change color.
I like to watch in the park on days like this.
この時期が一年で一番いい。
紅葉の季節だからね。
こんな日に公園を歩くのが好きなんだ。
2. Your sister is a married woman now.
The day will come when you'll be married, too.
I'm sure I'll cry at your wedding, too.
お姉さんが結婚したでしょう。

3. I don't want the kids to play in the street.
What if a careless driver comes along?

【解説】
1. the season「季節」の後のwhenは「その季節に」の意味を表し、前後の文を結びつけています。ここではin whichと同じ働きをしています。
2. 本来の語順はThe day when you'll be married will come, too.です。このwhenは「その日に」の意味を表し、on whichの働きをしています。
3. whereは「そしてそこで」の意味を表し、前後の文をつないでいます。whereはin whichの働くぃしています。What if ～?「もし～したらどうするの？」。
4. このwhenは「そのレストランでは」の意味を表し、at / in whichと同じ働きをし、前後の文をつないでいます。welcome「喜んで迎い入れる」。

8. whereはthe theater「劇場」を受けて、「その劇場で」の意味を表し、二つの文をつないでいます。
