件名：おめでとう

親愛なるジョージ

おめでとう！Eメールで君の結婚を知りとても嬉しかったよ。幸せな新生活をね。申し訳ないけどカリフォルニアでの結婚式には出席できそうにありませんが、妻と二人でお祝いを送りたいので、新居に必要な物を教えてください。連絡待ってます。

Subject: Congratulations

Dear George,

Congratulations! It was great to get your e-mail announcement about your wedding. We wish you happiness in your new life. I'm sorry we won't be able to make it to California for the wedding but my wife and I would like to send a present, so tell us what you need for your new home. Waiting to hear from you.

【解説】
Congratulations!の最後のsを忘れずに。get your e-mail announcement about ～「～についてEメールによる知らせを受け取る」の意味。「幸せな新生活をね」をWe wish you happiness in your new life.で表現。make it to ～「～に行く」、tell us what you need for ～「～に必要な物を教えて」。Waitingの前にWe'reが略されています。hear from ～「～から便りがある」。Best wishesと複数形になっている点に注目。

動詞wishを使った例文をいくつか挙げておきます。

I wish you happiness for ever and ever.
→末永くお幸せに。
From the bottom of my heart I wish you all the luck in the world.
→皆さんの健闘を心から祈っています。
Congratulations on your marriage. We wish you every happiness together!
→結婚おめでとう。お幸せに！
