【解説】
1.「お金にうるさい」をstingy「けちな」で表現しています。turn ～ offは「～をうんざりさせる」の意味。
2.「有給」はpaid vacation、「産休」はmaternity leaveと言います。
3. U-turn とUが大文字になる点に注意。U-turns are forbidden on this road.とも言えます。forbid は「禁止する」の意味。
4. 「立て板に水」とはso smooth and fluent「とても滑らかで流暢である」ということですね。
5. act on ～ 「～に基づいて行動する」。I could never be a true man of my word.この言い回しも覚えておきましょう。a true man of my word「本当に約束を守る人（言ったことを守る人）」。

rationalizeは「（理屈をこねて）正当化する」という意味。
