英文法の急所（文法71回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、英語らしい表現を身につける(4)です（再確認しておきたいone, another, the otherなどの使い方）。1.～4.のモノローグを赤字に注意して読んでください。
1. Sharon and her sister sound exactly alike on the phone.
Sometimes I think I'm talking to one of them ...
But it turns out to be the other.
シャロンと彼女のお姉さんの声は、電話では全く同じように聞こえる。
どちらか一人に話しているつもりだが。
もう一人に話しているということがある。
2. Some people like their steak rare.
Others like it well done.
I'm one of the ones who like it rare.
レアのステーキが好きな人もいれば。
よく焼いたのが好きな人もいる。
僕はレアが好きだな。
3. Five sailors were drifting on a raft.
When they reached an island, two of them decided to stay there.

【解説】
1. 二人（二つ）の場合、一人（一つ）をthe oneで、もう一人（もう一つ）をthe otherで表現します。turn out ～「（結局）～であるとわかる」。
2. Some people ～とOthers ...を対比させて、「～だという人もいれば、…だという人もいる」の意味を表します。one of the ones who ～「～だという人の中の一人」。
3. この場合のthe othersは二人を除いた残り三人の船員を指します。drift「漂流する」、draft「いかだ」。
4. one thingとanotherを組み合わせ、二つが別の事柄であると言っています。
