文法42で取り上げましたが、such ~ that …をもう一度。早速、理屈より豊富な例文!

 

1. She's such a tall girl that she stands out in the crowd.

彼女はとても背が高いので人込みの中で目立つ。

 

such ~ that …で「とても~なので…」という意味になります。so ~ that …の場合、soの後には形容詞・副詞、suchの後には名詞が来ます。例文を二つ。

 

2. It was such a boring play that I fell asleep halfway.

とても退屈な芝居だったので途中で寝てしまった。

3. He had such a fun time at the party that he didn’t want to go home.

パーティーがとても楽しかったので彼は家に帰りたくなかった。

 

such a tall girl that / such a boring play that / such a fun time at the party thatに注目。さらにもう一つ。

 

4. This room is such a mess I can't handle it.

この部屋はとても散らかっているので私の手には負えない。

 

suchの後に形容詞がない場合。また、so ~ that …と同じようにthatは省略化。これも文法42で説明済み。

「いらいらする」にはいろいろな表現の仕方がある。いくつか例を挙げておこう。Just being with him is making me nervous.「彼と一緒にいるだけでいらいらしてくる」、He starts to get eddy when things don't go the way he wants.「物事が思った通りに進まないと、彼はいらいらし始める」、I'm getting impatient here. Make up your mind.「いらいらするな~。はっきりしてくれよ」。
