「主語を変える５」。言い換えた英文の出だしに注目！早速、実例をチェック！
1. We need a new copy machine.
新しいコピー機が必要だね。
⇨ It’s about time for a new copy machine.
2. I don’t like this car.
この車、気に入らない。
⇨ This car is not to my taste.
《解説》
1. We need a new copy machine「新しいコピー機が必要」とは、It’s about time for a new copy machine.「そろそろ新しいコピー機にしないと」ということですね。
2. This car is not to my taste.の文字通りの意味は「この車は僕の好みではない」。tasteの代わりにliking「好み」も使えます。

3. have yet to ～「まだ～していない」。主語をThe details「詳細」にして、受け身の文に。haven’t been settled yetの意味は「まだ決められていない」。
4. can hardly stand ～「～が耐えられない」。その理由はThe smell is overpowering.「その匂いが強烈」だからですね。(例) The air freshener is overpowering.「芳香剤の匂いがきつすぎる」。
5. This photo takes five years off of you.「この写真はあなたから５歳取る」＝「５歳若く見える」。This photo makes you look five years younger.と言い換えてもいいでしょう。動詞makeとlookの使い方に注目！
