《今日のFUP：1233》 空中楼閣 ─ くうちゅうろうかく
「彼女は想像力豊かな案を思いついたが、空中楼閣の感がなきにしもあらず」─ She came up with a very imaginative idea, but there’s a pie-in-the-sky aspect to it.
come up with ～「～を考え出す」、imaginative「想像力に富んだ」。「空中楼閣」にはa castle in the skyという言い方がありますが、ここではpie-in-the-sky「絵に描いた餅のような (形容詞)」を使っています。there’s a pie-in-the-sky aspect to ～「～は実現しそうもない感じがする」で「空中楼閣」の意味を表現しています。
（例）「それは彼女がすべて想像力をたくましくし過ぎたことによる産物だ」─ It’s all the product of her overactive imaginations.
・overactive imagination「たくましすぎる想像力」。
前回の復習
「利害得失ばかり考えていると嫌われるよ」─ If you look at everything as a cost-benefit analysis, people won’t like you very much.
「すべてを費用対効果分析で見る (利害得失のことばかり考える)」─ look at everything as a cost-benefit analysis
「この世の中、お金で動いてるんだ」─ Money makes the world go around.
「最後はお金の問題になるんだよ」─ Ultimately, it’s going to come down to money.
「あの二人は利害関係で結びついてる」─ Those two have a vested interest in each other.
Extra Bit：「あの判事にまったく利害関係が無かったとは思えない」─ I doubt that that judge was entirely disinterested.
