《今日のFUP：1209》 苦心惨憺 ─ くしんさんたん
「苦心惨憺の末、報告書を仕上げたのに、うっかり家に置き忘れるなんて。参ったな」─ I went to all that trouble of finishing the report, and then carelessly left it at home. I’m stuck.
I went to all that trouble of ～ing「～するのにあんなに苦労したのに」で「苦心惨憺」を表現。carelessly「うっかりして、不注意に」。「家に置き忘れる」はleave ～ at home、「網棚に置き忘れる」はleave ～ on the overhead rackと言います。I’m stuck.「困った、身動きが取れない」。
（例）「骨折り損のくたびれ儲けだ！」─ All that trouble for nothing!
・It was all just a waste of time.とも言えます。

「我が国は内憂外患の状況にあるが、国を挙げて乗り切らなくてはならない」─ Our country is beset with problems both internal and external, but we have to overcome them as a nation.
「内憂外患の状況にある」─ be beset with problems「さまざまな問題に悩まされている」＋both internal and external「内外共に」/ both at home and abroad「国内外で」
「国家として～を乗り越える」─ overcome ～ as a nation
「ちの息子は内弁慶ですから」─ Our son is a mouse abroad and a lion at home.
Extra Bit：「あのチームには多くの内紛がある」─ There's a lot of internal dissension on that team.
