《今日のFUP：1175》 四面楚歌 ─ しめんそか
「去年、彼は四面楚歌のような状態だった」 ─ Last year he seemed to have the whole world against him.
「四面楚歌」をhave the whole world against ～「世界中が～に反対している」で表現しています。He seemed to have been completely outcast.とも言えます。be completely outcast「完全に見捨てられている」。きっと彼は疎外感を味わっていたのでしょう (He must have felt alienated.)。
（例）「子供達はみんな一緒に遊んでいるのに、あの子だけは別で、完全に無視されている」─ All the kids are playing together, except for that one, who’s completely ignored.
・except for ～「～以外は」、ignore「無視する」。
前回の復習
「金メダルを受け取り、彼は得意満面だった」─ He was beaming with pride as he received the gold medal.
「得意げに顔を輝かせる (得意満面)」─ beam with pride
「誇りに思う気持でいっぱい (得意満面)」─ burst with pride
「喜びで顔を輝かせる」─ beam with delight
「喜びを爆発させる」─ burst with joy
「見ろよ！あいつ得意顔をしてるぞ」─ Look! He has a triumphant look on his face.
Extra Bit：「試合の後、彼は満面の笑みで、喜びの気持ちを語った」─ He beamed with delight after the game as he told everyone how happy he was.
