《今日のFUP：1145》 奇々怪々 ─ ききかいかい
「近頃、奇々怪々な噂が流れている」 ─ There are some bizarre rumors going around lately.
bizarreは「奇怪な、異様な」の意味。strange「奇妙な」やweird「風変わりな」も使えます。rumors「噂」の後にthat (which) areが省略。go around「広がる」。ちなみに、「あれは根も葉もない噂に過ぎない」はThat's nothing but a groundless rumor.と言います。groundless「根拠のない」。
（例）「妙な噂を立てられたら彼女が困るだろ」─ Spreading strange rumors is hardly fair to her.
・spread「広める」、hardly fair「公平とは言えない」。
前回の復習
「昨夜の記者会見で、その国会議員は出処進退については明言を避けた」─ At the press conference last night, the Diet member avoided saying anything definite on how to handle himself.
「～についてはっきり言うこと (明言) を避ける」─ avoid anything definite on ～
「国会議員」─ Diet member
「身の処し方 、自分自身をどう扱うか (出処進退)」─ how to handle oneself
「辞職するべきかどうかについて」─ ～ on whether he should resign or not
「いざとなったら、彼がどうするのかはわからない」─ You never know how he’ll act when push comes to shove.
Extra Bit：「市長はとうとう辞めざるを得なくなった」─ The mayor was finally forced to resign.
